At the moment I am reading an extremely interesting book called ‘Essays on the Sacred Language, Writing and Religion of the Parsis’ by Martin Haug, PhD -professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Philology at the University at Munich. This was published in 1878, and I downloaded the pdf from the net.
What amazes me most is the professor’s writing style, it so clear and lucid, and so amazingly interesting to read, unlike many other books on similar subjects. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and recall. He also appears to be objective and unbiased, a must for a writer of non-fiction. He also sheds light on a subject not really covered elsewhere, on how knowledge about the Zoroastrian religion reached the Western world. He informs us who those early European writers were, some of whom lived in Mumbai and Gujarat to write their books on the Parsis. At first glance, this does not seem to be valuable or key information. But its importance cannot be denied, because it is these writers who shaped the world vision of Zoroastrianism, and perhaps even influences us today.
Great post, it was very informative. I think its a must read.
