Pateti

Today is Pateti, the Parsi New Year. This is according to the Shehanshahi calendar, different from the Iranian calendar which celebrates 21 March, Spring Equinox as Navroz. Though we celebrate both, Pateti is celebrated more by Parsis, and Navroz by Iranis.  Happy New Year!

    Dear Friends,
Refering to the above it seems some of you are celebrating the Shehanshahi New Year on the wrong day. The New Year (NAVROZE) is on day Hormazd, month Farvadin.

Pateti is on the last day of the year. Patet as the word suggests, is a day of remembrance and prayer for the souls of their dear departed.

Hence greeting anybody Pateti Mubarakh is not only inappropriate but completely misplaced.

Please also consult your Dasturs for clarifications.

    Tandroasti.
